Sarge's Chef on Wheels is inspired by and dedicated to my parents, Julius and Delores West.
Dad was a Sarge in the Army Air Corp for over 30 years. He served in WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam, retiring in 1974 as a First Senior Master Sargent.
Dad was stationed all over the world, and offered his family the opportunity to be exposed to an array of cultural experiences that most children only dream about.
While Sarge exposed me to world cultures and cuisines, Mom inspired my love of cooking.
Mom had a rare passion for food and used it to make people comfortable. She would not simply offer food if you visited our home, she would prepare it, and place it in front of you to show that she truly meant for you to enjoy it. Sharing her food with family, friends, neighbors, and other visitors was the thing that made her happiest in life!
Our food roots go to Sarge's New England upbringing, Mom's low country South Carolina childhood, and time stationed in New York, England, and Japan.
We have named our food truck and website Sarge's Chef on Wheels in a tribute to the proud upbringing I had as a military child, and the inspiration they gave me to cook!
